>The sock shown in the background and here started out being a gauge swatch for, believe it or not, a pair of socks! As I knit it in the round like I would the socks, it just kinda came to me to finish off the swatch as a sock. As a result I have gotten more compliments on it! I wear it as a pin of sorts decorated with guild pins and other pins when I am demonstrating spinning.

...I finally finished the toe socks for my youngest daughter, Eva. She kindly put them on so I could take pictures. And you can click here for a larger look. Pretty nice huh?! I spun the yarn out of Color Me Becoming. I split the roving into about 1 foot lengths then stripped those down to about 8 smaller pieces. Gives lots of quick color changes.

I have always wanted to spin quiviut and was able to find some at NwRSA's 1999 Conference in Tacoma from Fantasy Fibers. I began spinning it on a handmade high whorl spindle. Wow! It spins very fine! Before I finished what I had, I was gifted with more quiviut, but I was moving to Texas! Now what will I do with very very warm quiviut in Texas? My original dream was to knit a wimple like the one in Knitting in America designed by Priscilla Gibson-Roberts. I still want to knit that one! So what if I am in Texas and it is hotter than blazes in the summer? No one wears a wimple in the summer anyway, right? It really does get cold in Texas in December and January. My studio is upstairs of our drafty house and I have been known to wrap an angora/merino shawl around my head cuz I was getting a cold headache. So I will persevere and make that wimple....someday soon, really :-). Here is a photo of the quiviut and my Kaari spindle Hatchtown Farms that I finished spinning it on.

There had been lots of talk on Spindlitis awhile back about what to carry our spindles in. Here is a photo of my sheep bag that I have been known to cart my spindles around in. My friend, Micayla, thinks it has sheep calming abilities! We were working her booth,Spinster's Cottage (unfortunatley no longer in business) at 1999's Shepard's Extravaganza and the sheep (Diane DuBray's Lincolns) in the stalls behind us would quiet down when I showed them the bag!

I have started a collection of spinning related items. Here is my page with my miniature spinning wheels and some of my spindles.

At the end of the twelve days of Christmas, spinners get back to work. Here is a page with all sorts of information so you may celebrate too. Roc Day
